108781: Donald MacDonald

Donald (d 1423) was the son of John MacDonald, Lord of the Isles and his second wife Margaret Stewart, who had married in 1350. Margaret’s father, Donald’s grandfather, was crowned Robert II in 1371.

It was Donald, not his older half brothers, who inherited the title Lord of the Isles in 1386, although his half brothers Ranald and Godfrey retained their mother’s lands as vassals. Godfrey, who titled himself Lord of Uist, died in 1401, and nine years later, on 6th December 1410 Donald issued a charter confirming the grant of Teampull na Trianaid to Inchaffray Abbey.
