Lady Margaret was the wife of Sir Alexander MacDonald of Sleat (died 1772). They lived at Monkstadt House, Kilmuir and were friends of Donald Roy MacDonald of Baleshare and Flora MacDonald of Milton. All four were involved with helping Bonnie Prince Charlie to escape following the Battle of Culloden. Flora was later to marry their son Allan.
