Donald Gorm Òg was the eldest son of Archibald MacDonald. He succeeded his uncle Donald Gorm Mòr in 1617, becoming 8th Chief of Clan MacDonald of Sleat, and having been knighted by James VI in the same year, was also 1st Baronet.
