William Grant (1873-1932) was from Inverness and moved to Stornoway as a news reporter for the Highland News during the 1890s. In 1906 he married teacher Johanna Morison of 29 Newton Street, with whom he had a family.
In 1917 William founded the Stornoway Gazette, becoming its first editor, a role continued by his youngest son James Shaw Grant following William's death in 1932.
