111511: Norman Morrison

Norman (born 1899) was a son of Donald Morrison and Margaret Macritchie, 13 Kneep and later 13 Reef. In 1923 Norman emigrated to Canada on the emigrant ship SS Metagama, and later settled in Detroit. He learnt his trade as a carpenter.

Norman returned to Lewis in the 1930s and spent some time in the sanatorium at Willowglen, recovering from tuberculosis. When he returned to 13 Reef, he was an asset to the community, used his carpentry skills to steam planks for building and repairing boats, and built the wooden window frames for Baile na Cille Church. He also made distinctive meal chests for Uig households, following a design he had seen in America.

Norman did not marry.
