111601: Alexander Maciver

Alexander Maciver (born c1660) was the son of Duncan Maciver of Carloway.

Alexander became a tacksman. He settled at Old North Tolsta Tack and let Old South Tolsta Tack to sub-tenants.

Alexander married twice but the names of his wives are not known. The names of six of his children are known, but it is said he had at least eight more sons and several more daughters.

By 1716 tenancy of Old South Tolsta Tack, with its sub-tenants had passed to his son Roderick Maciver.

By 1740 the tenancy of Old North Tolsta Tack had also passed to Roderick, but it is not clear if this was due to Alexander’s death or for other reasons.
