Chirsty Shaw, born 1816, was the daughter of John Shaw and Mary MacLeod of old Borve. She married shoemaker William MacDermid of old Ruisgarry, with whom she was to have ten children. The first four were born in Ruisgarry before the family emigrated to Loch Lomond, Cape Breton in 1842.  

Chirsty became a widow in 1880. She died in 1889. Both she and her husband were buried at Lochside Cemetery, Mount Auburn.
