Catherine, born 1834, was the daughter of farmer Donald Morrison and Catherine Paterson of Ruisgarry. About 1845, with the re-organisation of the Ruisgarry crofts, the family emigrated to Loch Lomond, Cape Breton. There Catherine married John Paterson, also from Berneray.
