Roderick, born 1836, was the son of Angus MacAskill and Effie Munro. The family moved from Borve to Ruisgarry sometime during the 1830s. In 1845, with the re-organisation of the Ruisgarry crofts, the family was moved to 19 Kyles Scalpay.
