Margaret, born 1844, was the daughter of Angus MacAskill and Effie Munro of Ruisgarry. In 1845, with the re-organisation of the Ruisgarry crofts, the family was moved to 19 Kyles Scalpay, where Margaret’s mother died in 1848. Her father subsequently remarried and emigrated to Australia.
