John, born 1806, was the son of Neil MacLeod and Effie Fraser of Borve, then Brusda, part of Ruisgarry. John, like his father, became a farmer in Ruisgarry, marrying Catherine Morrison of Rodel and Ruisgarry. Together they were to have seven children. They left the area following the re-organisation of the crofts, moving to 25 Newmarket in 1848.
