Roderick was a son of Roderick Mackenzie and Christina Fraser, Kinresort and formerly Lochbroom. He moved with his family to the Keeper’s Cottage, Uig Lodge, where his father continued his employment as a gamekeeper.

Roderick married Mary Macaulay, 7 Islivig and they spent a number of years in Hamnaway, where he was a gamekeeper. Roderick took over from his father as Head Keeper at Uig Lodge.

Roderick retired in the mid 1950s, when they moved to the Old Schoolhouse, Brenish.
