Effie, born 1828, was the daughter of Murdo MacLeod and Catherine MacLeod of Ruisgarry. The family lived in Ruisgarry until 1845 when, with the re-organisation of its many small crofts into larger ones, the family was moved to 3 Meavaig South. Effie, who remained unmarried, worked as a servant. By 1861 she moved with her parents to 8 Deiraclete and in 1867 to 8 Drinishader.
