Donald, born 1835, was the son of Murdo and Mary MacAskill of Ruisgarry. About 1845, with the re-organisation of Ruisgarry’s crofts, the family emigrated to L’Ardoise, Cape Breton. Donald married Kate, whose surname is unknown.
