Catherine, born 1835, was the daughter of John MacLeod and Margaret MacAskill of Ruisgarry and Borve, Berneray. The family was moved to Borve, Harris during the 1840s. Catherine worked as a maidservant before her marriage to John MacAskill of Port nan Long in 1861.
