114870: Mary Macrae

Mary (1821-1896) was the daughter of Farquhar Macrae.

At some point Mary lived in Strathpeffer, but it is not certain she was born there.

She married Murdo Mackenzie, of Gairloch, it is not certain where the couple lived during their early marriage.

In 1851 the family were recorded, in the census, as residing in North Tolsta. Murdo taught at the school, Taigh-sgoile Beag, and they lived at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta. At this point the couple had four children: Mary, John H, Murdo and Farquhar. Their daughter Murdina was born the following year, it is not clear if this happened before or after Mary was widowed.

After being widowed Mary moved her family to Stornoway.
