Ewen, born 1831, was the son of Donald MacDonald and Mary MacAskill, possibly born in Seilebost. By 1841 the family was living in Borve, Berneray, before returning to Harris during the 1840s, living at Kendebig. Ewen married Catherine Morrison, with whom he settled at 7 Drinishader.
