115996: Duncan Maclean

Duncan (1771-c1845) was married to Catherine Maclennan and they lived at Bayhead Street, Stornoway. On his son John’s baptism record Duncan is described as a herd on the Moor of Stornoway. At that time, most of the villages of the Stornoway area had summer grazings on the moor to the west of the town, and Duncan may well have been the estate’s shepherd, controlling the movement of the crofters’ stock in the area.
