Malcolm (1844-1905) was the son of Angus Mackay and Barbara Murray; it is not certain where the family werre living at the time of his birth. His maternal grandmother lived at 25 Old Back and his paternal grandparents lived at 3 Achmore.

In 1851 his grandmother divided her new croft, 18/19 Back, and the family obtained 19 Back.

He married Mary Macleod, of 55 Coll, but it is not clear where the couple initially settled or where their first four children were born.

In 1875 the family obtained 65 Coll, as a newly lotted croft, and the couple had a further three children once settled there. In due course 65 Coll passed to their son, John.
