116940: Malcolm Smith

Malcolm Smith (1760-1845) lived in Laxay, Lochs, but it is not certain he was born there.

Malcolm married Isabella Maclennan, of Lochs, and the couple had seven children. It is not certain where they were living when their children were born.

By 1820 he is recorded on the tenants list of Buanish and by then the family were settled at 5 Buanish.

When Buanish was cleared the family initially settled at 8 Tong: which was his brother Duncan's croft.

Malcolm appears to have obtained 5 Old Tong at some point, but it is not clear if he lived on the croft or merely worked it.

By 1837 the family are on the rent roll for 2 Tong. In due course 2 Tong passed to their youngest son: Roderick.
