116968: Catherine Ann Macleod

Catherine (born 1897) was a daughter of Malcolm Macleod and Mary Smith of 5 Tong.

In Airdie, on the 5th of December 1920, Catherine had a daughter: Annie. She then returned to Tong with her daughter.

Ten months later, in 1921, she emigrated to the United States of America aboard the SS Columbia. She left her daughter with her parents. Shipping documents describe her as 5′ 6″ with a fresh complexion, brown hair and brown eyes. She arrived in America on the 3rd of October and stated her final destination as Long Island, New York.

In Manhatten, on the 26th of March 1926, she married George A Reid, a Scots-born butler. On 11th May 1930 she was joined at her home in the Astoria area of Queens, New York, by her younger sister Mary Anne, who had likewise emigrated.

By 1940 Catherine and George had two children: a boy and a girl.
