117000: Catherine Paterson

Catherine, born 1818, was the daughter of Alexander Paterson of Borve. According to the death register, Catherine’s mother was Margaret Shaw, rather than Margaret MacKillop as suggested in the Croft History for Borve. The site of Catherine’s childhood home was later known as Tobhta Alasdair ‘ic Thormoid. 

Catherine married Norman MacLean, with whom she was to have seven children. The family was living in Borve at the time of the 1841 census, moving to 35a Scalpay a few years later.
