John Montgomery (1889-1944) was a son of John Montgomery and Christina Macleod, 17 Cromore. After his father's death in 1896 the family moved to Stornoway.
John was apprenticed to W J Tolmie, Chemist at 29 Cromwell Street and subseqently worked for MacPherson & Co before training in London to become a chemist.
During WW1 he served with the RAMC in France and Gallipolli.
In 1919 he opened a Chemist Shop in Sunderland and married Catherine Mary Macaulay, Keith Street, Stornoway. John and Mary settled in Sutherland.
