117470: William MacLeod

William, born 1661, was the son of Sir Norman MacLeod of Berneray. In 1706 William was passed the tack of Berneray from his mother, who had held it since the death of his father the previous year. William gave up the tack in 1730, making his home in Luskentyre, where he became known as William I of Luskentyre. As previous tacksman of Berneray, he was involved in some of the events surrounding the disputed island of Grianam.
