11840: Allan Ross

Ailean Ruairidh Ailein

Allan  (1803-1870) was a son of Roderick ross and Janet Mackenzie, Crobeg. He was a Schoolmaster and  was appointed schoolmaster on 28 March 1832 and Session Clerk on 21 April 1834.

In Lochs, in 1835, he married Annabella Macleod, Valtos. Allan and Annabella settled at the Parish Schoolhouse, Keose where they had three of their four children. After the Disruption of the Church of Scotland in 1843 the family moved to Maryhill, Crossbost where Allan was schoolmaster.  He was also appointed Inspector of Poor for Lochs by the Parochial Board which meant that he travelled widely in the Parish.

Allan was widowed in 1860 and he died ten years later.
