Donald Macaskill (1906-1948) was a son of John Macaskill and Ann Madonald, 17 Gravir. The family later moved to 22 Point Street, Stornoway. In 1923 he was living at his maternal grandparents croft at 23 Ranish.
He enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve, S/N A11078, on June 14, 1923. His record indicates that he was 5ft 8in tall with grey eyes and a fair complexion. He gave a false year of birth as he was too young to enrol. Donald was sent to HMS Pembroke for training and was Medically Discharged with Organic Heart Disease.
