John was a son of Roderick Mackenzie and Christina Fraser, Kinresort and Keeper’s Cottage, Uig Lodge. He became proprietor of Garynahine Lodge and after relinquishing the tenancy he settled at Springcorrie, Garynahine. 

John was married with one daughter.
