120062: Allan Macsween

Allan Macsween (1897-1916) was born in Stornoway and resided at Battery Park.

During the First World War Allan served as an Able Seaman. His service number was J/25788 and his record (held by The National Archives) notes that Allan’s previous occupation was as a schoolboy, that he was was 5′ tall, had a chest measurement of 32.5″, had a fresh complexion, grey eyes, and dark brown hair.

Allan served on the HMS Invincible. He was killed when the Invincible was sunk in the battle of Jutland. His name is recorded on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial (section reference 13) in Hampshire.
