Murdo (born 1888) was a son of Donald Mackenzie and Chirsty Macleod, 10 Grimshader.
On November 29, 1909 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve, Service Number A2294. His record indicates that he was 5 ft 10 in tall with brown eyes and a sallow complexion. Murdo was a fisherman on Banff, Peterhead and Stornoway registered fishing boats.
He was Mobilised on August 3, 1914 and he served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at HMS Excellent and aboard HMS Halcyon and HMS Brilliant. Murdo was awarded £15.12/6d in Prize Money and is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
His father died in 1919 and some of the family moved to their maternal grandparents croft a 11 Cromore.
Murdo and his sister, Mary lived at 21 Grimshader. He was a bachelor.
