121723: Donald Grant

Donald from Newtonmore was a brother of Doctor John George Grant. He was  a qualified surveyor and a keen angler. He is remembered in Garynahine for having single-handily dug a road in the moorland to serve as an access to the peatbanks at the back of the doctor’s house. It is still there and was used regularly in later years.
After moving to Miavaig he had a small dwelling, coated in bitumen to make it waterproof, which was destroyed by fire although he was unhurt. Subsequently he lived in Coulregrein House until his death.
