Donald (1864-1952) was a son of Dugald Kennedy and Margaret Nicolson, 2 Calbost. He was a crofter/fisherman and he also operated a shoemaker's business, drawing work from all the surrounding villages.
At Fraserburgh, in 1896, he married Catherine Mackay, 29 Gravir. Donald and Catherine settled at 2 Calbost and they had ten children. As senior citizens they moved to Nairn with their daughter Joan.
Four members of Catherine and Donald's family emigrated to the Americas in the 1920s and they lost a son in each of the two World Wars.
