16305: Angus Maclean

Angus (born 1895) was a son of Angus Maclean and Marion Mackay, 1 Aird Uig.

He became a member of the Household Cavalry.

He trained as a teacher in Aberdeen from 1919-1922.

He worked for the Lewis School Management Committe and taught in Bayble School until 1931.

In 1931 he became the headmaster of North Tolsta Junior Secondary School. He settled at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta. He was a born craftsman and gave much practical instruction to the senior pupils when the school had a Junior Secondary Department. He is remembered for electrical lathes in the craft room and for setting up an electric bell. He was not particularly interested in sport.

In 1933 Angus married Elizabeth Campbell, from Kingussie, at Saint Andrews Church, Kingussie. The couple resided at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta; they did not have any children.

Angus retired in 1960; the couple moved to Monadhliath, High Street, Kingussie.
