1874: John Smith

John "Iain Gobha" (1813-1889) worked as a pilot for boats coming into the Caolas at Little Bernera to collect the fish that was cured there. None of his sons were capable of doing this work and when he grew old, John Macdonald, the tacksman in Caolas, made John swap homes with John Martin "Iain Choinnich" from 3 Earshader who took over his duties.

John wrote the song "Fuilleagain" on the occasion of his sister-in-law Mor’s marriage.
