Johanna (1897-1981) was a daughter of John Macaskill and Mary Mackay, 26 Gravir. The family moved to Goathill Road, Stornoway in 1911.
In 1929 she and her sister, Mary Isabella emigrated to the United States of America on the SS Cameronia and landed at Boston, Massachusetts. In 1930 she was a Domestic Servant in Boston living with Mary Isabella and in 1932 at Gloucester, Massachusetts she married Samuel Herbert Sylvester. Johanna and Samuel settled at Gloucester and they had two children.
