Mary (1839-1890) was a daughter of John Carmichael and Christina Campbell of 12a Old Lemreway.

Old Lemreway was cleared in 1843 and the family were removed to 3 Glen Tolsta. The five children in the family, aged between one and fourteen years old, spent their first winter at Glen Tolsta under their upturned boat on the beach before the family were able to build a house for themselves.

In Stornoway, in 1860, she married Kenneth Chisholm, 30 Gravir. Mary and Kenneth initially lived at 30 Gravir and in the late 1860s moved to 10 Lemreway. The couple had ten children.
