24290: Murdo Finlayson

Murdo  (1889-1966) was a son of Donald Finlayson and Margaret Nicolson, 10 Calbost.

On February 21, 1911 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve Service Number A3413 and re-enrolled under  C4260 and D4211. His records indicate that he was 5 ft 7½ in tall with brown hair, grey/blue eyes and a fresh complexion. Murdo was a fisherman on Stornoway registered fishing boat  the SY1168. He was Mobilised on August 4, 1914 and served in the Royal Navy during the First World War. Based at HMS Victory, HMS Idaho, HMS Iolaire and aboard HMS Bicester, HMS Chinkoa, HMS Hermione, HMS Kildress, HMS Stephen Furness and HMS Thalia. He was awarded Prize Money of £18.15s and is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.

After the War he returned to fishing on the Ribhinn Donn and worked on the SS Lord Of the Isles.

Murdo was a bachelor at 10 Calbost.
