26262: Donald Macleod
Donald (1886-1941) was a son of Fergus Macleod and Catherine Mackay, 16a Laxay. Donald joined the Seaforth Highlanders and served in India. He also served in France during the First World War. After the War, he became a gamekeeper on the Soval Estate. When William Ross moved to Stornoway as head gamekeeper in 1924, Donald followed him as one of his underkeepers. Donald then worked for S A Newall & Sons and for Thomas Smith & Co. Donald married Mary Macrae from Applecross and lived at 3 Plantation Road, Stornoway. He died as a result of a car accident.
