29009: John Macleod
John, son of Donald Macleod and Marion Maclennan, 2/4 Kershader was brought up in his grandfather’s house.
He became a sea captain but lost his ship on the China coast and as a result lost his Masters Certificate but he returned to Britain and successfully contested that decision and regained his Certificate.
He was eventually appointed Shore Superintendent with the Blue Star Shipping Company in San Francisco, USA.. Before taking up a career at sea he served in the Army. In his old age he was accidentally killed in Liverpool crossing the street in the wartime blackout during the Second World War.
