John Murdo (1899-1917) was a son of Donald Macdonald and Peggy Macmillan, 7 Kershader.
He enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve, Service Number DA14335, on January 19, 1917. His record indicates that he was 5ft 4in tall, light blue eyes and a fresh complexion. John Murdo was immediately Mobilised and served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at HMS Pembroke and aboard HMS Halcyon and HMS Thalia.
He died of Tuberculosis in Chatham Hospital and is buried in Gillingham New Cemetery. John Murdo is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918 and his name is commemorated on the Pairc War Memorial and the Lewis War Memorial in Stornoway.
