Catherine was the daughter of Murdo Mackenzie and Isabella (surname unknown) of Lochs and Kirkibost. Catherine married Neil Macleod from Old Mangersta and they lived on Vuia Mhor. They had twelve children and all but two (both called John) emigrated to Cape Breton in the 1820s.
