38387: Alexander Macdonald

Alexander ‘Alasdair na Duine’ (1859) was the son of John and Margaret (surname unknown). He lived at 14 Valtos.

Alexander married Margaret Morrison from 3 Valtos and they lived at 3a Valtos. A lodger, Kirsty Morrison, probably a relation of his wife, lived with them (1901 census). In 1921 Alasdair became the first tenant at 4 Reef.

They had two sons: Donald, who joined the Seaforth Highlanders and then the Merchant Navy, and retired to Reef; and Iain, who emigrated to Canada on the Metagama in 1923. (Iain was killed in motoring accident in Chicago in 1929.) They also brought up Lily Morrison, daughter of Margaret’s sister.
