Finlay (1886-1917) was a son of Roderick Montgomery and Catherine Mackenzie, 4 Balallan. After his father died in 1893 Finlay lived with his grand-parents at 1 Habost.
Finlay trained as a teacher in Aberdeen and held appointments in Melvig and Dundee before becoming Headmaster of Achiltibuie School. He served in the RNR during the First World War and was killed when his ship, the armed merchant vessel 'Harrow' was sunk off Whitby.
