41188: James Macrae

James (c1827-1903) was a son of Alexander Macrae and Margaret Johnson, Scaliscro Farm. He was Registrar and Inspector of the Poor in Uig, and latterly Postmaster, during the latter half of the 19th century.

James married Jane Mackay, of Thurso, and raised nine children in Miavaig. Miavaig Farm was created to supplement his income and the family lived at Miavaig House, which is now demolished.

James died in 1903 and is buried at Baile na Cille:
