41215: George Macleod

George, born in Sutherland 1864, was a son of Angus and Joanna nee Gordon. After his mother’s death he and his siblings lived with their paternal grandparents in Croir. When his brother and sister died from smallpox his aunts took him away from the house, burning the roof before they left, and according to tradition lived for a short time in Gasun. From there they moved No 4 Hacklete and later to No 8 Breaclete. George was still in Breaclete in 1901 – unmarried and employed as a herring smoker, but it is believed he married after that and settled in Stornoway.
