Murdo, his wife Catherine and their family were resident on Vuia Mhor until the early 1840s when it was cleared. They settled in Ungeshader where Murdo was the first tenant of No. 3. Murdo died in 1855, and his death certificate indicates he was born in Geshader, son of Murdo.

At least four of his children emigrated to Quebec around that time.

Oral tradition (related by Rev Col AJ Mackenzie) maintains that Murdo was a veteran of the 78th Seaforth Highlanders. If his date of birth is correct, he would have been one of the Saighdearan Mac a'Mhinisteir.
