John, son of John and Mary, was living in Valtos in 1841 with his wife Mary nee Macaulay. He was a weaver, and became the first tenant at 38 Valtos (Cliff) though it is not known whether he actually lived there.

They had at least eight children (Christina, Mary, Margaret, Jean or Janet, Ann, Catherine, Isabel, Barbara and Angus).

Their daughter, Mary, married John Buchanan, Bernera and later emigrated to Quebec.
