George was in the fish business all his working life and prior to starting his own businesses he had risen to be managing director of the old Crofters Supply Agencies operations on the West Coast of Scotland. George was also the Vice Chairman of the Lewis & Harris Salmon Growth Association for the first two years of its life.
His wife was from Glasgow and they had four children.
