Murdo (1814-1903) was possibly born on the island of Vuia Mhor, where his father Norman was a tenant; his father and family had moved to Carnish by 1841, when the island was cleared.

Murdo married Isabella Matheson in 1839/40. They are living in Carnish in 1841-1851 and by 1861 have moved across the sands to 11 Crowlista. They had  six children.

In 1891, Murdo was recorded as living at the back of 49 Bayhead Street, Stornoway with two of his sons.
