John (born 1861) was a son of Norman Macaulay and Ann Macleod, 3 Islivig. He was married to Bellann Maclean, 20 Valtos. They had four children: Murdo Norman born 21-07-1893; John born 20-01-1895; Ann born c1896 and Alice Dan born c1901. When their first two children were registered in Valtos School, their address was given as Reef. They left the district on 27-03-1902.

According to Bill Lawson's Croft History, the family emigrated to America.
