4975: William Gray Ross
William Gray (1865-1931) was the son of John Ross and Christina Gray. It is not clear where he was born but the family lived in Baris Parish for a time.
In 1894 he moved to Soval with his mother. He worked as a Gamekeeper and she as a Housekeeper from Barvas in 1894. Both his father and grandfather had been gamekeepers.
He married Mary Mackenzie, of 7b Keose, and the couple settled at the Gamekeepers house and had seven children.
In 1924 William was appointed Head Gamekeeper at Marybank, Stornoway and the family moved to Stornoway.
